Everything Else » My nerdkit USB cable died

For no apparent reason. So I took it apart to see what was inside and this is what I found -

Fortunately I had my regular serial cable already set up and just had to connect it to the nerdkit - works fine so I don't think I'll get another nerdkit cable. Instead I'll setup and use a FT232R chip since it doesn't have the stray voltage issue on the yellow wire.

Blob-chip, oscillator, capacitors and resistors... interesting; what speed is the oscillator? Makes me think this is not a pure USB cable.
