Between the Tutorial for the led array and all the information posted in the forums, you'd have just about any info you could ever need. While the guide would possibly be nice, it definitely isn't mandatory to build the array. Many of us built it before the guide even existed. Search the forums, you'll find tons of info (quite a bit from me) on a complete step by step build and code additions. Here is one link of mine - And another. There are many more as well.
