Everything Else » Where's a good place to buy parts (bulk or not)?

Where's a good place to buy parts in bulk or otherwise? Bulk LEDs, bulk resistors, bulk capacitors -- of varying capacities? SureElectronics.com seems like a nice place, until you go to check out and hit the shipping prices (though that may still be a good deal in the end as well).

Thanks, MikeDoug

I second digikey. Their shipping is pretty reasonable. The only thing I don't like about them is the search on their site, but when you carry as many parts as they do, I can understand it!

Mouser electronics is a great place. No minimum order and quick fair-priced shipping. They've even upgraded my shipping once from USPS to UPS at no extra charge to me. Great online catalog as well.

I prefer All Electronics. Shipping is a flat $7.00 anywhere in the 48 contiguous US via UPS or USPS. There selection is nowhere near Digi-Key, but the prices are better(my opinion). I also use MPJA specificly for LEDs. You can get 100 of the red/green/yellow for $1.95. MPJA also has Breadboards very cheap.

Futurlec was where I got some of my 1st micro-controller related STUFF. I purchased both their attiny2313 and mega128 development boards. The tiny2313 board even comes with an ISP programming interface.

You are definitely right about shipping though. My packages came from Thailand and took nearly a month. However, if you're not in a rush, their prices are hard to beat on some items.

I just bought a few crystals from DigiKey. Pretty good pricing but I am not too fond of their catalog online. The shipping prices are Emailed to you for record keeping but they don't put it in the total when making the order. I just had it sent first class mail... pretty cheap.

To save folks some Google-ing, here are a few sites I've found (there are quite a few out there) that sell components in kit or unit qtys. at what appear to be reasonable prices. I've purchased from robotshop and have read nice things about goldmine.

Also, though this may seem obvious (sorry, if it is), for folks into building/repairing old kits/devices, Google "obsolete ics" and you'll find many sources of new "obsolete" components (like discontinued ICs, etc.)

I buy alot from digikey and other stuff from sparkfun (great site) and vetco (for etching supplies). sparkfun has a ton of educational stuff on their site particularly stuff on surface mount soldering.

I placed a order with Mouser and they held it up waiting for backorder items, it finally came and I am very pleased.

Then yesterday I received their 2190 page paper parts manual. It will take me months to view it.
