I'am new to this but find the projects interesting. I was thinking about a project that would use a wireless rf transmitter to signal to the controller which would then possibly send text to a cell phone about the information that the wireless was transmitting. I'am not sure this could be done and possibly I would need a telephone line to transmit the text to the cell phone. I was looking at the XBee modules a the transmitter. Any suggestions about where to start.
